History: The Gillette Super Speed came on the scene in the late 1940's and ran through continuous production into the 1980's. The "Flair Tip" variety came out in the 1950's and ran through the late 60's and was designated as the "Normal" variety for average skin and beard. They are known as one of the best all around DE razors to be made. TV Super Speeds were a special marketing ploy from Gillette to see how effective TV commercials were. At the dawn of the Television there was much doubt as to its popularity. Gillette, as always, was on the cutting edge of innovation. Would the TV be a passing fad or a new American household staple? Advertising this unique razor only via TV commercials allowed Gillette to rate the effectiveness of this new form of marketing.
